In fact, unique ceiling details are becoming extremely popular in <a href=\"\/design-ideas\/kitchen-remodeling\">kitchen remodels<\/a>. If this design element interests you, here are some considerations from <a href=\"\/team\/leslie-molloy\">Normandy Designer Leslie Molloy, CKD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is often a focus on cabinets or built-ins, with ceiling details falling to the wayside,\u201d said Leslie. \u201cHowever, when you add design details to your ceiling, it\u2019s another layer to the overall feel of the space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust like an area rug anchors down furniture to the room, a ceiling can also define the room. Especially in open-concept areas,\u201d added Leslie.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-22531 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Mllr47-lo.jpg\" alt=\"tin ceiling above the kitchen island\" width=\"407\" height=\"611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Mllr47-lo.jpg 400w, https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Mllr47-lo-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/>When upping your ceiling\u2019s style, it\u2019s important to take height into account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCeiling height can be a challenge,\u201d noted Leslie. \u201cWith a standard eight foot ceiling it can be hard to do a tray ceiling with depth because you can\u2019t make the ceiling lower.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, in that case, you can opt for crown molding to emulate a tray ceiling,\u201d added Leslie.<\/p>\n<p>If ceiling height is not an issue, then the next step is to determine the best style. If your home is overly traditional, the types of molding used in a <a href=\"\/blog\/ceiling-styles-for-existing-and-new-spaces\">tray<\/a> or <a href=\"\/blog\/coffered-ceiling-designs\">coffered ceiling<\/a> may have more ornamentation. Or, if your home is contemporary or transitional style, then moldings should be simpler.
