You do your prep work at the sink and you <a href=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/blog\/air-switch-for-garbage-disposal-by-the-sink\">clean up<\/a> at the sink, which means that every meal you make begins and ends at the sink,\u201d says Normandy Design Manager\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/team\/leslie-molloy\">Leslie Molloy, CKBD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Proper lighting at the sink\u00a0will make your time there easier and possibly even more enjoyable.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s imperative that you have good task lighting,\u201d This can be an aesthetic choice like <a href=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/blog\/kitchen-lighting-with-sconces\">sconces<\/a>, or\u00a0something strictly task-oriented, including can lights or a light bar above the sink. \u201cA can light can get it done, but it won\u2019t add beauty the way a\u00a0well-chosen pair\u00a0of sconces will,\u201d says\u00a0Leslie.<\/p>\n<p>Can lights will provide more direct lighting while sconces will shed diffused light on the sink.\u00a0Want the best of both worlds? Add both.\u00a0\u201cHave <a href=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/blog\/let-there-be-light-2\">as much light<\/a> as possible,\u201d says Leslie, adding, \u201cOftentimes, something that seems like it\u2019s simply a task light is actually adding another layer of\u00a0dimension\u00a0to the overall design of your kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-28305\" src=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/TownCountry010-e1584713233399.jpg\" alt=\"White kitchen with cabinets above the sink\" width=\"276\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/TownCountry010-e1584713233399.jpg 606w, https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/TownCountry010-e1584713233399-256x300.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t mean you should throw up lights just anywhere.\u00a0Leslie cautions, \u201cWatch the placement\u00a0of\u00a0can lights over the <a href=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/blog\/fall-in-love-with-apron-front-sinks\">sink<\/a>. If they are installed too far toward the front of the\u00a0sink;\u00a0they might cast a shadow while you\u2019re working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leslie&#8217;s advice is to add extra lighting even when your sink is in front of a window. You\u2019ll appreciate it after dark and on gloomy days. If you happen to choose a wall-mounted light over a sink with a window above it, you will need to be mindful of the header over the window which can make the install of this fixture much more challenging.<\/p>\n<p>It really is the details that make your kitchen a pleasant place to be.
