\"ModernWhat\u2019s the key to a perfect entertainer’s kitchen? One that works as well for the chef as it does for the guests? According to Normandy Designer Laura Barber, AKBD<\/a>, an island<\/a> or peninsula<\/a> that\u00a0separates the two is essential. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t seem to matter if you have a 10\u201d x 10\u201d kitchen or a 20\u201d x 20\u201d kitchen. Everyone stands right there,\u201d says Laura. She adds, \u201cCreating some separation between the workspace and those who aren\u2019t actively working\u00a0is important in a successful kitchen.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Laura also recommends designating a\u00a0drinks station to draw people away. \u201cPut your coffee bar<\/a> or wet bar<\/a> to work. A dry bar or even just a cleared-off countertop also work well as a place to set up glasses, ice and easy grab-and-go drinks,\u201d she says. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"wetLaura also likes a floorplan where the kitchen is open to the dining room<\/a> for entertaining. \u201cWhile it doesn\u2019t have to be completely open, having a kitchen that flows into the dining room is excellent for entertaining. People can spread out across the two rooms without feeling like they are missing something,\u201d says Laura. When you do have guests, consider placing appetizers or another drink option on a sideboard to tempt even more people away from the workspace. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo often, dining rooms go unused<\/a>, but if they are open in some way to the kitchen, the space becomes inviting,\u201d Laura explains.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another thing to think about is storage<\/a>. Being able to access your place settings,\u00a0glassware and serving pieces will\u00a0keep stress down for the host and helpers.\u00a0\u201cAdding vertical storage for trays and serving platters makes it easy to\u00a0pull them out when you need them and tuck them away when you don\u2019t,\u201d says Laura.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf entertaining<\/a> is important to you,\u00a0we design to\u00a0help you enjoy your\u00a0time preparing and serving food and\u00a0to enable your guests to enjoy your efforts.
