After putting each of them through college, it was finally time for this hardworking couple to redo their primary bathroom. With a space-wasting layout, a cramped, dark shower and closet space that needed updating, there was nothing but opportunity for Normandy Designer <a href=\"\/team\/abby-osborn\">Abby Osborn<\/a> and Normandy Design Manager <a href=\"\/team\/leslie-molloy\">Leslie Molloy, CKBD<\/a>. \u201cNothing stayed in the same spot and we were able to create some great spaces for each of them,\u201d says Abby.<\/p>\n<p>When the layout is being completely overhauled, designers like to give several design options. \u201cLeslie and I worked up four design options. From there, we took the best elements of two designs and merged them into the final layout, which is what we brought to life,\u201d says Abby.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-30703\" src=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_1287.jpg\" alt=\"shower in a farmhouse bathroom remodel\" width=\"230\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"\/blog\/type-a-planning-tendencies-are-great-for-remodeling-planning\">working through<\/a> many design options can make the process a little bit longer, it makes the end result better.<\/p>\n<p>Once the layout was decided on, choosing materials went smoothly. \u201cShe knew she wanted a farmhouse feeling for the room. She and I collaborated on some shared Pinterest boards. The shiplap walls, wood cabinets and porcelain tile are beautiful,\u201d says Abby.<\/p>\n<p>The couple have different work schedules. He occasionally rises, packs a bag and heads out for business travel before she\u00a0 is up and about. \u201cThe vanity wall is long with a beautiful window in the center. We separated the vanities and put a charming bench in-between. This gives him a place to pack a bag and either of them a spot to sit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-30704\" src=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_1294.jpg\" alt=\"farmhouse bathroom with shiplap wall\" width=\"230\" height=\"332\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She now has a larger portion of the closet and the <a href=\"\/blog\/do-i-need-a-bathtub-in-my-master-bathroom\">shower<\/a> of her dreams. \u201cThe shower is a tremendous improvement,\u201d says Abby. She adds, \u201cBefore it was like climbing into a dark hole to wash up. Now it\u2019s open and bright, with beautiful natural light streaming in during the day and a <a href=\"\/blog\/heated-shower-benches\">luxurious bench<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new design has lots <a href=\"\/blog\/bathroom-storage-game\">more storage<\/a>. There is a sizable new linen closet in what was poorly used space behind the toilet room. The vanity cabinets offer drawers and cabinets to keep everything organized. Even the shower niche for storing shampoo bottles helps. \u201cThe storage makes sense now,\u201d says Abby.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-30705 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/normandyremodeling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_1296.jpg\" alt=\"farmhouse styled bathroom\" width=\"230\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new bathroom improves their lives tremendously,\u201d says Abby, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s wonderful that such nice people finally have the bathroom they\u2019ve always wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps your primary bathroom has the opportunity to be everything you\u2019ve always wanted it to be.
