\"\"When they moved into their Kenilworth<\/a> home, Normandy clients Elizabeth and Jimmy wanted to give their kitchen a more open and sophisticated feel \u2014 and make space so the family of four could more easily sit around the island together.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur old kitchen had a late 90s vibe with cherry cabinets and black counters, but we wanted it light and bright,\u201d Elizabeth says. \u201cAnd while everyone always wanted to be in the kitchen, the stools would back into the stove, and there was barely room for one person to eat by themselves at the island<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple had worked with Normandy to remodel their kitchen in their previous home, so they reached out and paired up once again with Normandy Designer Vince Weber<\/a> for their new home.\"\" For the overall look, they decided on elegant soft blue cabinetry with a delicate custom grid pattern on select portions, such as the paneled refrigerator<\/a>, and accented with ornate polished nickel hardware.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a big blue<\/a> family and have it throughout our home, so this shade was perfect. It also complemented the light gray in the family room,\u201d Elizabeth says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey wanted a sophisticated and high end feel with a full-height backsplash, and they selected a stunning custom metal hood<\/a> for the project,\u201d Vince says. \u201cIt really shines against this neutral backdrop and complements the texture of the cabinet mullion<\/a> designs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Before \"BeforeTo brighten and open the space even more, they removed a wall<\/a> that separated the kitchen from the family room and breakfast area. \u201cThe old kitchen felt cramped and disconnected,\u201d Vince says. \u201cIt was all about opening the kitchen to the family room and eating area. The main motivation was to open all the spaces for more of that \u2018living kitchen.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The new large kitchen island<\/a> has plenty of room around it. \u201cWe love the island now and the extra room,\u201d Elizabeth says. \"\"\u201cWe\u2019re always at the kitchen island, either having meals or doing work or homework, whether as a family of four when my son is home from college, or a family of three.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their new kitchen also has custom storage, like a charging drawer for electronics, and freezer and refrigerator drawers<\/a>. One drawer is a dedicated ice drawer that makes two different shapes, including a hexagon; another drawer can be set for use as a refrigerator or freezer, depending on the need.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were also able to create a small bar<\/a> space within the breakfast area footprint by shifting the table and creating a custom banquette,\u201d Vince says. To round out their remodel, Elizabeth and Jimmy chose a unique backsplash for the new bar area.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cWe really wanted to make a statement in that area, a point of interest, so we chose a pattern printed on Thassos marble<\/a> tile,\u201d Elizabeth says. \u201cIt ties in a lot of other colors we have, the white and gray and blue. We love the blue, we never get tired of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
